Can a new development be considered a "blight" on our community?
Yes, if it is so visually inappropriate that the city itself adopted a zoning ordinance that prohibits warehouses in commercial zones, such as this Project site. Or if the city's adopted "design guidelines" also prohibit metal buildings in commercial zones. Or if you, with common wisdom and a sense of appropriate aesthetics, find this project offensive.
Blight is defined as a thing that spoils or damages or something having a severely detrimental effect on.
synonyms: affliction, scourge, bane, curse, plague, menace, evil, misfortune, woe, calamity, trouble, ordeal, thorn in one's flesh/side, visitation, nuisance, pest, pollution, contamination, ruin, wreck, spoil, disrupt, mar, play havoc with, make a mess of, prevent, frustrate, crush, quell, quash, dash, destroy, shatter, devastate, demolish, or sabotage.
The city attorney wrote to the previous Mt. Shasta city planner that this warehouse project was not allowed on this commercial site. The current city planner notified the applicant also that warehousing like this is not allowed on this site. But in spite of the city's laws and advice from its top planning officials, the applicant is pushing for approval of these metal warehouses anyway.
Judge for yourself. Is this blighted project something you want to see in our city here?

GUARDSMAN FENCING proposed by city officials
City officials propose modifying the applicant's proposed fencing to reduce the project's aesthetic impacts. They want the applicant's wire-fabric fencing along the Spring Hill Trail proposed with solid metal slats that block nearly all through views to be replaced with the open picket "Guardsman" model metal fencing. The Initial Study however fails to explain why an open fence with 19% view blockage could possibly reduce the visual impact of a non-compatible metal building project compared to the originally proposed slatted fence with up to 95% view blockage.
